In a world where climate change is threatening our farming systems with extreme weather and new diseases and pests, most of our food comes from crops such as wheat, rice and maize. This makes us vulnerable, especially given the unstable geopolitical situation, where trade barriers can cause marketing problems.
On 20 January 2025, the Strategy Meeting of the PeaceBread movement was held in Berlin. There were 26 participants from 8 countries.
The working groups put forward proposals for the next period of activities of the Peaceful Movement. The main thrust is to involve more youth entrepreneurs and young entrepreneurs in rural areas.
Participants of the international heritage plant project "Communities for Climate" from the Peipsimaa Cooperation Centre and members of the Kasepää Folk House club "Meemen" visited the Rural Science Centre and the gene bank.
The aim of the heritage plants project is to conserve and promote the heritage plants of Lake Peipsi region.
The guests were given an overview of the wheat bread-making laboratory and the work of the breeding group of wheat .
From 30 September to 2 October, the 10th conference of the PeaceLife movement took place in Brandenburg and Berlin, Germany. FriedensBrot e.V., a non-profit organisation set up in Germany, is the initiator and main coordinator of this citizens' initiative. Representatives from 12 countries are involved in the movement.
We will make information on the genetic resources of conserved agricultural crops available to the public.
A meeting of the Working Group on Documentation and Information of the European Co-ordinated Programme on Plant Genetic Resources (ECPGR) was held in Tallinn on 18-19 September.
The meeting was attended by 17 specialists in the field of information management of genetic resources from eleven institutions involved in the conservation of genetic resources in Europe.
