The Genebank of the Centre of Estonian Rural Research and Knowledge (METK) organised a grass seed collection expedition to North Estonia, including the islands of Mohni and Vaindloo, on 28-29 August.

The expedition was attended by Külli Annamaa, Sirje Tamm, Priit Pechter, Rene Aavola and Ants Bender.

Seeds of common alfalfa, red and white clover, witch-hazel, ash, celandine, sheep's-grass, meadow-grass, red clover, dew-grass and lemon-grass were collected.

Field trials will be carried out at the METK to study the collected species and the seeds will be stored in a gene bank.

The expedition was organised in accordance with the activities planned in the national programme "Collection, conservation and utilisation of genetic resources of agricultural crops 2021-2027".
